Coconut Champagne is a Thing

hotdogs

Gray’s Papaya have at least two locations in Manhattan. I visited the small one in 8th St. While I was a little bit confused by how to make the order, I was soon getting a friendly introduction by a super nice guy.

Apparently a Hot Dog is not just a Hot Dog in NYC. What really surprised me, was that the New York style Hot Dog is served with Sauerkraut. Anybody know why that is?

Please try them yourself when you visit NYC. It’s something completely different to what we call a Hot Dog in Germany: All beef grilled Frankfurter, various sauces and toppings. We had 3 Hot Dogs with a rather large drink for $8.99 and think it was a great deal.

But in the end you’d might asked yoursel: “Why is it called Papaya?“. And if you had seen all the other Hot Dog stands that call themselfes something with Papaya your question will get even more bothering. It’s just the drinks. Just the drinks. It’s not coke, fanta or something similar. They serve several custom made drinks. The most famous is Papaya - there’s your relationship to the name. We choose Coconut Champagne, which is a tasty, creamy drink with coconut water. You won’t need anymore sugar for a day after drinking it, but it’s well worth it! Please try it and FYI: it is alcohol free 👌
