Grocery Shopping 2.0
January 19, 2020
You are hungry? Thirsty? Just need a quick bite? Nothing extraordinary? Try an Amazon Go store!
There are a few stores on Manhatten and their prices are pretty good. For example, you get an reasonably sized Cappuccino or Latte for about $1.79 and a big bottle of water for $1.49. Additionally there tables to sit and eat, free WiFi and microwaves to cook some meals.
But now let’s talk about why I call it 2.0! There is no checkout. You just go in, scan the QR-code from the AmazonGo app, take what you want and leave. That’s all! No checkout at all.
The whole store is full of sensors and tracks every movement of your and the people that come with you. Take something from the shelf: Added to your cart. Put it back: Removed from cart. It’s so easy and afterwards you get a receipt in the app.
The only thing I couldn’t understand was: Why can’t there be something like a current shopping cart in the app? Having the current total in sight would be even better!
